Please join us on Thursday, May 22nd for a very special evening at the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts (CCAHA).
CCAHA is a nonprofit organization that has provided conservation and preservation services since 1977. Their conservators repair and stabilize books, photographs, works of art on paper, and documents, and they also provide education programs and help institutions plan for the future of their collections.
The Carpenters' Company has been working with CCAHA to identify the most delicate books in our historic library, and conserve and repair them, over the last 3 years. We invite you to join us for a fascinating evening with the Carpenters' Company & CCAHA conservator, Richard Homer. Richard will walk us through the conservation process with the Carpenters' Company books, as well as take participants back into the conservation lab, for a behind-the-scenes look at this important work. Carpenters' Company Historian, Jeff Cohen, will provide background on the Company's library and the importance of the collection. Jeff will also shed some light on the invaluable impact of the late Roger Moss, whose dedicated work shed light on the rarity of the Carpenters' Company collection and helped ensure its survival for generations to come
As Senior Book Conservator at CCAHA, Richard Homer has conserved a wide variety of bound materials, from medieval manuscripts to 20th-century artists’ books. Before joining the staff of CCAHA in 2000, Richard worked as Protective Enclosures Assistant at Harvard University’s Widener Conservation Lab and as Collection Maintenance Assistant at the New England Historic Genealogical Society. He has been a member of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) and the Philadelphia Area Conservation Association (PACA).
**This event in free for members of the Carpenters' Company's Delegate Circle**
